Using native plants for our homes and community encourages us to establish a personal relationship
with our natural world, a relationship that invites native plants and wildlife back into our immediate lives
and adds value to all.

The Central Chapter of the Illinois Native Plant Society has an active membership encompassing the
Central Illinois region. We endeavor to advance the stated purpose of our organization and in doing
so enhance quality of life for our members and community. Additionally, you will find us engaging the

community by participating in environmental events and supporting projects that promote the
conservation of Illinois native plants and natural communities.

We invite you to foster a personal relationship with the natural world by joining us at a monthly meeting,
on a field trip or at our annual native plant sale. We value your participation in our organization and
extend an open invitation to join us in our exploration of the amazing biodiversity of Illinois.

Central Chapter January Meeting
Thursday January 10, 2012

Guest Speaker Sr. Kathlyn Mulcahy, OP
St. Rose Convent – A dream made real flowed from the bywords:
simple, serviceable, and sustainable.

Atop the new St. Rose Convent is a green roof. The vegetation gives off oxygen, increases insulation, and reduces the need for artificial heating and cooling inside the structure. It increases infiltration of rain which is channeled to the garden below.  The rain garden itself grows native Illinois plants, partially funded by Central Chapter INPS.

Location: Illinois Audubon 2315 Clear Lake Avenue Springfield, IL 62703

Business meeting begins at 6:30pm, followed by Program
